Old Town Bluffton to get new streetlights, sidewalk

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC)- Old
Town Bluffton is getting a new look. New streetlights, a sidewalk extension and
a public plaza are being added to the town as part of the beautification
campaign.

Money
for the project came from the SCE&G franchise fees, a federal
Transportation Enhancement Grant, and the local share of hospitality tax revenue.

The
town expects the project to be completed in August.

ATLANTA (WTOC) - Skechers is going to pay up for it's shape-ups. The government says Skecher's claims that the Shape-Up fitness shoes can help shed pounds and tone muscles are sketchy at best. 
 
The footwear company will pay $40 million to settle charges by the Federal Trade Commission that Skechers made unfounded claims that its Shape-ups shoes would help people lose weight and strengthen their butt, leg and stomach muscles.

Bobcat mascot stolen from Bluffton High School

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC)- A symbol of pride and school spirit is missing and one lowcountry school says they need it back.

Someone stole the Bluffton High School bobcat, known affectionately as Bob. The mascot, which is made out of 250 pounds of metal, mesh and concrete, once sat atop the tunnel to the football field.

Bluffton High School Athletic Director Dave Adams says it had to take at least three or four people to pull off a prank like this. The mascot has only been at the school for a year but it was there for the school's best football season ever.

Beaufort Co. School Board to meet

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- The Beaufort County School Board will be tacking the budget on Tuesday night. They are considering a number of proposals.

One thing on their agenda is incorporating iPads in the classroom. Riverview Charter School is already using the devices in its classrooms. The district is looking at purchasing 8,000 iPads for all of the county's high schools and middle schools. 

It's all part of the school district's college and career readiness plan for next year to help students achieve.
